24H to 5K

My Saucony trail running kicks.

Well, I have less than 24 hours to remain free of the plague that has downed everyone in my family but me. My first 5K begins at 12 pm tomorrow in San Juan Capistrano. It's a trail run, so I'll be wearing my trail shoes. And a really cute new lightweight baseball cap I bought today. I'm embarrassed to say that I now own three pairs of sneakers: a pair of road-running sneakers, a pair of trail sneakers, and a pair of ultra-light sneaks that I like to wear because they're cute. I need to remember to get a couple of new pair of heels so that I don't upset the delicate balance of slut/sport in my shoe closet.

I'm still feeling fine, but I may have blown my sterling immunity at lunch. I accidentally took a sip of my 4 year-old's soup, and she's still feverish and sick. She said the soup was too hot. I checked it with her spoon. What can I say? I may be screwed.

Even as I write this, I'm sitting on the couch next to her sneezing on me. There's nowhere to hide when I'm home from work. Only time will tell.

One more quick thing: Today I got my Road I.D. in the mail. It's an i.d. bracelet for people on the go - think cyclists, runners, swimmers - who aren't keen on carrying around a wallet while they are training. Will post more about it after the race. But I'm wearing it now and I love it already.

See you tomorrow on the trail!
